About Me

 Deborah is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Approved Supervisor. She has maintained a private practice in Harahan since 2011 where she currently provides individual counseling to adults 18 and older facing a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief, trauma, and addiction. She is also currently attending the University of New Orleans working on a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Her qualitative dissertation research study focuses on moral injury and combat Veterans of the Gulf War and OIF/OEF eras. From 2007 to 2013 she was the lead therapist facilitating group counseling sessions for the Adult Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs at River Oaks Hospital. It was at River Oaks where she first obtained experience working with Veterans and active-duty Military. She has additional work experience providing treatment services on the inpatient Adult Psychiatric Unit at River Oaks to patients experiencing acute symptoms, as well as working as a mobile crisis counselor conducting assessments in the emergency rooms of several hospitals on the Northshore. Deborah has provided substance abuse counseling in conjunction with the New Orleans and Baton Rouge treatment provider for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. She has been a workshop presenter in the mental health community on topics that include mental health treatment, suicide prevention, grief, the use of technology in counseling / supervision, combat-related trauma and moral injury. In 2015, Deborah gained experience as an international co-instructor working alongside one of her UNO professors and a fellow doctoral student providing intensive coursework in case conceptualization and treatment planning to masters students in transcultural counselling at the Valletta campus of the University of Malta. She is currently an adjunct faculty member with New York University Steinhardt in the online Master's of Art in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness program; Counseling@NYU.
